Malawi Update

We received a report from Brasswell yesterday. Instead of trying to tell you myself what is going on, I am going to just let you read it for yourself. It is exciting to hear of new believers who are now part of the Kingdom. Please pay attention to the prayer requests at the bottom of his letter. Just think, we will be on our way to Africa in just 37 days.

Hi Brothers in the Lord,

Am so glad to report to you about the work of God that has taken place here in my area. We had a revival meeting which took place at Ekwaayiweni, our new preaching point. Eight people were baptized in the Lunyangwa river. The Church is growing rapidly. They have already burned bricks ready to build a church building. Deacons B. Phiri and B. Kajogolo are the ones who are helping this church to grow. The pictures will be sent to you later.

The churches in the NTHALIRE area are also growing. The fastest growing is Mibanga.Mr John Kabaghe is helping these Churches. From the funds you sent us to use in our family I was able to buy a bicycle for John Kabaghe. Mr Kalua is helping the church at Nthaalire center. Kalopa is growing little by little. We need someone to be put there to help the church.

Betere is doing good. Recently before the beginning of the building of the Training Center, several people came to the Lord. For your information, Dacosta has started another preaching point. It is named Chibeku Baptist preaching point. This church is cituated in Mzimba south west. Last Sunday, fourteen people were baptized. Dacosta is planning to leave Betere by next year. Betere will be left in the hands of Jam and Moyo. The widow at Betere is doing well now. I gave some of the money to her.

The president of the Baptist convention has also given me the responsibility of taking care of the Chibavi Baptist Church. The church is doing well in terms growth, both in quality and quantity.

I had a car accident on 8th June, 2008. The accident happened on my way to Lusaka, Zambia. The journey was to help me and other preachers from Malawi get a training on how we can evangelize our continent of Africa. I thank God because none of us were hurt.

The training center is now at window level. The pictures will be sent to you tomorrow.
By the end of September the classroom block will be completed.

PRAYER REQUESTS;

1.Pray that all the young preachers I have trained would have a zeal to serve the Lord without compromise.

2. Pray that our work of the T. Center be completed on time without any hindrances.

3.Pray that my family should remain in good health.

4.PRAY THAT THE LORD WILL PROVIDE ME WITH A RELIABLE MEANS OF TRANSPORT.

5.PRAY THAT GOD WILL PROVIDE ME WITH A LAPTOP COMPUTER FOR EASY COMMUNICATION WITH YOU.

6.Pray that the Lord will give me trusted people with whom i can work with.

I thought I would post a short entry of our travel plans and itinerary for those interested in knowing a little bit at this time.

On October 9th at 0615am (yes that's 0615 "AM") Lord willing, we depart from LAX bound for New York, where we will land 5 hrs and 15 min later. After a short 2 hr and 50 minutes stretch break, we then began phase 2 of our travel in an 18 hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. There, we will meet up with Brasswell, who will be completing his first week of a Biblical counseling class he is taking through a class provided through connections provided by Grace Community Church (John MacArthur’s home church). After a night together at the South African Baptist guest house, we then catch short 2 hr flight on Sunday morning to Lilongwe, where we meet up with Brian Biedebach (a missionary to Malawi from GCC) and spend the night, reviewing the ministry model he has set up to give Malawian pastors and believers a model to see how a church should function. Then on Monday, it’s off to Rumphi, 8 hours north, to meet Brasswell's family and community.

Then starts a very busy week of teaching: 2 days in Betere (about 7-8 miles north of Rumphi), 2 days in Kalopa (a full day’s journey over the Nyika national park and down the mountain range), a day’s travel back to Rumphi, and then 2 days in Mzuzu, about an hour south of Rumphi. The first 2 stops will be training with local leadership, the Mzuzu stop will include some of the local congregations as well as the pastors).then briefly back to Mzuzu to gather our belongings before travelling back down to Lilongwe, to meet up (hopefully) with the Baptist seminary and staff before retiring for the night back with Brian Biedebach. Then the next day, the 5 of us travel back to South Africa (Brasswell will stay behind in Lilongwe until his next school session in November) where a member of Christ Baptist Church will pick up and drive us to Polokwane, where the church and seminary are located. There we will spend 3 days and 2 nights in various ministry opportunities to local students and staff, as well as meet up with and observe Pastor's Ollen and Jam as they are in class for that week. Then, on Friday we begin the plane rides back home to Los Angeles, arriving on Saturday the 25th at 0307p.

This is just a brief noting of the itinerary, we will post further details as time permits leading up to our (33 days and counting) departure. I hear the garage sale went well today, I look forward to hearing some details tomorrow, and perhaps either Brian or Josiah (or both!) will give us a blog entry as to the day’s events through their eyes!

You love, prayers and encouraging support are very much appreciated by us. Thanks be to God who continues to sustain us through what has been a very full schedule, and which promises to remain so as we finish up all the planning and preparation that needs to be completed.

Serving together with you to the people of Malawi for the sake of The Name in the joy of His saints,

Charles

Note: one correction needed for the last comment; The team leaves on October 10th (that's what I get for blogging to late at night).

Brasswell just sent us some more pictures of the training center building, which is nearly up to the roof line & is ready for the metal sheets and windows to be installed. We are getting closer!
